Pelican Catch 100: 100 Things I Love About It

Introduction to the Pelican Catch 100

However, if you’re looking for another fantastic option in the beginner-friendly small kayak market, look no further than the Pelican Catch 100! Within this review, I’ll go over my experiences with the kayak, including what I like, what I don’t like, and my cumulative opinion on the kayak.

What I Like about The Pelican Catch 100:

Seating

One of my personal favorite features is the extremely comfortable seat. After embarking on an eight-hour voyage, there was not a single inch of pain present in my body. On top of comfort, the seat boasts numerous handy features. The seat has two settings: up mode and down mode. Up mode is better for when you come to a stop at your fishing spot, while down mode helps with rowing (as it lowers your center of gravity).

Lastly, the seat has multiple storage components. When in up mode, I was able to store some of my gear under the seat. At the front of the seat, there is a small pocket that I use for carrying a fishing knife. The back of the seat contains a large mesh pocket for storing bigger items. This seat’s versatility in comfortless, adjustability, and handiness gives the Catch 100 a step above its competitors.

Transport

In terms of transporting the kayak, it’s pretty easy. The kayak is small and lightweight, making it simple to carry through any environment. Some of the coastline along one of my local lakes is hard to access due to hilly terrain and heavy forests. When I attempted to move one of my larger kayaks through this tough landscape, it was an impossible task. However, I had no issues with transporting the Catch 100 to the shore. Additionally, the kayak features 4 excellently crafted riveted handles. Their rigidness and comfortable indentations make carrying the Catch 100 so much easier.

Capacity and Stability

The kayak can handle a larger capacity of gear compared to other small kayaks, with an astounding capacity of 350 pounds. This was immensely helpful for me, as I tend to bring a heavy load on my kayak voyages.

Stability-wise, I find the kayak to be sufficient enough. There were a couple of times where I stood up in the boat with no issues. No falls, no instances of the boat tipping over. Just good stability all around.

Pricepoint

Lastly, the kayak provides an extremely good value for its price. Not only is it affordable for beginners, but the kayak offers an unprecedented amount of features relative to other kayaks in the same price range. Thus, if you’re looking for a budget kayak ready-made right out of the box, strongly consider the Catch 100!

What I Don’t Like About the Pelican Catch 100:

Unfortunately, the kayak doesn’t track the best if not in the right conditions. If the weather is good, the Catch 100 tracks are just fine. But on days where some wind or rain is present, my kayak slightly struggled to stay on the path. If you plan on using this kayak, be vigilant of the weather.

When it comes to the rod holders, it’s a mixed bag. There are 2 on both sides of your seat, then 2 right behind it. I found no issues with the front 2-rod holders. However, I found the positioning of the back 2-rod holders to be quite awkward. They were too far back, making them tough to reach and use.

For the most part, the Catch 100 has the capacity for a lot of storage. Unfortunately, I have one small gripe with its waterproof storage hatch at the front. Despite offering plenty of space for storing items like fishing rods and paddles, it’s pretty hard to fit such objects through the hatch due to its angle.

Conclusion on the Pelican Catch 100:

As far as I can say, the Pelican Catch 100 is a very worthy option for beginners hoping to ease their way into the world of kayak fishing. Not only is it an absolute bang-for-your-buck, but it boasts a large number of excellent features that aren’t present in its competitors. Whether you’re a seasoned veteran or rookie in search of a small-budget kayak with great quality control and accessibility, keep an eye out for the Pelican Catch 100.
